Despite facing challenges and sales struggles, Superdry has been crowned the “trendiest” British menswear label of the past year, according to a study by Genting Casino. The study, analyzing Google search data and Instagram posts from the last 12 months, placed Superdry at the forefront, showcasing its enduring popularity.
The report highlighted a notable menswear moment for cardigans in 2023, with 9.86 million Instagram posts and 897,000 annual searches, earning them a high “trend score” of 9.8 out of 10. Leather jackets followed closely with 4.17 million Instagram posts and more than a million searches, slightly trailing cardigans with a trend score of 9.73.
Other trends that made waves included crossbody bags, trench coats, and denim jackets, emphasizing a preference for casualwear. The list also featured flip flops, crop tops, polo shirts, puffer jackets, varsity jackets, parkas, bomber jackets, flannel shirts, and sweatpants.
Superdry secured its top spot based on 1.31 million Instagram posts and 5.5 million annual searches, earning a trend score of 9.6 out of 10. Ted Baker and Reebok also made the list, showcasing their resilience despite challenges.
Additionally, the study delved into influential men in fashion, with model David Gandy leading the pack, followed by art director Phil Cohen and fitness vlogger Rowan Row. Other notable influencers included Ali Gordon, Carl Cunard, Oliver Cheshire, Eyal Booker, Leo Mandella, Charlie Irons, Josh Cuthbert, Jim Chapman, Carl Thompson, Joel Mcloughlin, Matthew Spade, and Eve Efeturi.
The study offered insights into the fashion landscape, revealing the continued popularity of certain brands and trends among UK consumers.
