StockX Unveils 2023 Trends: Sneaker Resale Dominates with Retro Styles and Collaborations.

StockX, the global resale platform renowned for sneakers, streetwear, and collectibles, has shared key insights into the trends of 2023 in its latest “Big Facts” report. Notably, the report highlights the surge in popularity of retro sneaker models and the dominance of collaborations in the fashion landscape.

Among the standout trends, retro sneaker models from Adidas, along with fashion brands like Hellstar and Crocs inspired by film characters, emerged as winners of the year. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the notable developments in the sneaker and fashion resale market.

Three standout sneaker models that experienced remarkable growth in 2023 were the Nike Vomero 5, Asics Gel-1130, and New Balance 9060. Originally designed for running, these models have gained popularity for everyday wear. The Nike Vomero 5 saw an extraordinary sales increase of over 5,000 percent, while the Asics Gel-1130 followed suit with a remarkable surge of over 1,000 percent. The New Balance 9060, based on the brand’s 990 running shoe design, witnessed a trade increase of 744 percent, coupled with a more than 1,000 percent rise in searches.Adidas recorded double-digit growth on StockX, with models such as the Campus 00s and Gazelle leading the way. The Campus 00s experienced a six-figure percentage increase in trading in 2023 compared to the previous year. Notably, the retro styles like Adidas Campus 00s and Adidas Handball Special saw significant spikes in searches, showcasing the continued success of Adidas’ Samba and Gazelle models.

Ugg, the Californian footwear brand, continued its rapid ascent, with new colorways and coveted styles selling out quickly and commanding a premium on the secondary market. Noteworthy is the trading success of Ugg’s Tasman and Tazz loafers, with over 90,000 pairs traded on StockX. The popularity of these Ugg models is reflected in search increases of 2,340 percent and 1,340 percent for “Ugg Tasman” and “Ugg Tazz,” respectively.

Fashion labels like Hellstar, Denim Tears, and Trapstar emerged as the most popular of the year, with Hellstar experiencing significant mark-ups on StockX. Collaborations, such as Crocs’ Mater Clog featuring the character from the Pixar film Cars, broke records, becoming the most traded Crocs collaboration in StockX history. Crocs continued its success with other collaborations, including Shrek and Hello Kitty.

In the realm of sneakers, Jordan 1, Jordan 4, and Nike Dunks maintained their popularity on StockX, while hoodies from Fear of God’s Essentials line dominated the apparel category. Travis Scott collaborations secured the top spots in successful collaborations, with the Jordan 1 Retro Low Golf Travis Scott Neutral Olive leading with an average price premium of 397 percent.The report underscores the dynamic nature of the resale market, with consumer preferences shifting towards nostalgic and collaborative fashion pieces. StockX remains at the forefront of providing valuable insights into the evolving trends that shape the landscape of sneaker and streetwear fashion.
