Stella McCartney has introduced her first-ever purse made from banana trees as part of its autumn 2023 collection, as demand for eco-friendly alternatives to leather and other accessory materials increases. The Fungi Forest toile de jouy print from the company is embroidered on the eco material basis of the vegan logo tote in burgundy. Bananatex, a “entirely natural, circular, and plastic-free” fabric that is strong and waterproof, serves as the primary component.

Hannes Schoenegger, co-founder and CEO of Bananatex, stated that the label’s introduction of the bag marks “an important milestone” in the development of both the business and the material.

By incorporating a well-known pattern into the design, McCartney has decided to add a fresh
and ground-breaking material to its line-up.
