Six renowned master craftswomen and artists—Lado Bai, Kritika Joshi, Saroj Shyam, modern Indian artists Rachita Dutta, Rachna Badrakia, and Neha Lavingia—as well as two Jammu-based artists, Suman Gupta and Sohan Singh Billawaria—will be present for the four-day retreat.
The in-residence artists will remain at the upscale mountain harbour, working together and sharing knowledge prior to showcasing their individual and collaborative artworks at the exhibition on August 25. The artwork is inspired by the natural beauty and geography of Jammu.
The stunning and culturally diverse valley of Jammu is ready to greet art enthusiasts and collectors from all around the world once more! The second iteration of the interactive art retreat “Sama-Vaya” will take place on the grounds of Skyview by Empyrean, a 22-acre mountain harbour in the Sanget-Patnitop region that perfectly integrates premium hospitality, adventure, nature, and luxury. The event will take place from August 22 to August 25.
With the help of renowned art consultant and curator Anupa Mehta and crafts curator Anu Chowdhury Sorabjee, “Sama-Vaya,” which means “union” in Sanskrit, brings together renowned artists and craftsmen from all over India to work together, share ideas, and create works of art that are influenced by their surroundings. The artists will produce their impressions of Skyview By Empyrean, the surroundings, and Jammu while working both alone and in pairs.
“The response to the premier ‘Sama-Vaya’ art retreat last year was so overwhelmingly positive that we had to come back with yet another edition to celebrate all forms of art against the beautiful backdrop of Jammu! I’m delighted to have crafts curator Anu Chowdhury Sorabjee bring in her crafts expertise this year. The talented group of artists this year come from both urban contemporary settings as well as indigenous areas.
Lado Bai (Bhil art), Kritika Joshi (Phad painting), Saroj Shyam (Gond painting), and contemporary Indian artists Rachita Dutta, Rachna Badrakia, and Neha Lavingia are among the gifted and well-known artists taking part in this retreat.Suman Gupta and Sohan Singh Billawaria, two Jammu-based artists, will also join the group to contribute their local expertise and character.
