From January 14–19, the largest group of 45 Indian players will compete at KD Jadhav Stadium.

After the demanding Olympic campaign in Paris, players like PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and even the combo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty required time off to recover from their ailments and regain their energy. After taking a break from the game, the finest badminton players in India are ready to give it their all at home when the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2025 begins on Tuesday at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall at the Indira Gandhi Arena.

Olympic champions Viktor Axelsen and An Se-Young are among the top badminton players in the world who have competed in the prestigious tournament, which is a part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 series.

After the Olympics in Paris, Sindhu, the 2017 champion, had a lengthy hiatus before making a comeback to the circuit at the end of the year. She also got married in December, and she hopes that her performance here would make a big impression.

“This will be my first competition in the new year and after getting married. Since everything is fresh, I want to compete to the best of my abilities in front of my home supporters. At the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2025 news conference on Monday, Sindhu stated, “I wanted some time to recover physically and emotionally after the Paris Olympics, and the break has helped me get back rejuvenated.”

Sindhu’s assault against Chinese Taipei’s Shuo Yung Sung will begin.

More than 200 players from powerhouse badminton nations such as India, China, Japan, Denmark, South Korea and Indonesia will be in action in the Yonex-Sunrise India Open this week with as many as 45 Indian players set to participate in the tournament.

Up to 45 Indian players are expected to compete in the Yonex-Sunrise India Open this week, which will include more than 200 players from dominant badminton nations including China, Japan, India, South Korea, Denmark, and Indonesia.

Sanjay Mishra, secretary general of the Badminton Association of India, noted that the number of Indian players competing in the competition was evidence of the federation’s efforts to promote badminton throughout the nation. “It is a significant accomplishment for Indian badminton to have 28 entrants in a Super 750 event. Giving our young guns the opportunity to compete in a tournament of this caliber and observe the finest in the world in action can only aid in their growth, which is why holding such events is so important for us.”

“At Yonex-Sunrise, we believe in empowering athletes with the best-in-class equipment and creating platforms to showcase their talent,” stated Vikramaditya Dhar, Managing Director of Sunrise Sports India, in reference to their affiliation with the competition. The Yonex Sunrise India Open is a celebration of badminton’s passion and India’s growing supremacy in the sport, not merely a competition.

In addition to Sindhu, Indian badminton supporters will be hopeful that Satwik and Chirag, the runners-up from the previous edition and gold medallists at the Asian Games, would add another India Open trophy to their collection.

After the Paris Games, Satwik and Chirag missed a significant portion of 2024. They are keen to replicate their 2022 India Open title-winning feat after making a great comeback last week to go to the semi-finals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000. The ailment to the shoulder has come and gone. However, it took me some time to recuperate from a back ailment I sustained during the Olympics in Paris. However, I’m all right today and have no issues,” Chirag and Satwik claimed.

“We played in the Malaysia Open final and made it to the final here the previous time we visited. We began the year in Malaysia with a semi-final this time as well, and we want to outperform last year’s performance,” he continued.

“This competition has drawn a new generation of players and fans every year as it continues to gain prominence and appeal. Selvaamresh Supramaniam, Director of Tournament Operations at BWF Events, stated, “We are looking forward to yet another successfully organized event this week, as the Yonex-Sunrise India Open has been setting new benchmarks every year.”

Sen is also eager to win in front of people because his 2022 title triumph performance was held behind closed doors because of a stadium restriction brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak.

“The India Open is a very important tournament for us because we don’t often get to play in front of fans in India.” I didn’t have any fans when I won the competition last. He said that he has moved over his regret at not winning a medal in the Olympics in Paris and that his desire to succeed is still burning strong. “But this time, I want to win it in front of the fans,” he stated.

The BWF World Tour is anticipated to discover new talent in the 2025 season, and the Tour’s growth over the years has been greatly aided by the assistance of its partners.

“At HSBC, we are proud to be associated with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) as the Global Banking Partner and as the Title Sponsor of the HSBC BWF World Tour,” stated Hitendra Dave, General Manager & CEO, HSBC India, in reference to their position as the HSBC BWF World Tour’s primary partner. A common desire to promote the sport and provide chances for players, spectators, and enthusiasts throughout the world is evident in the collaboration between HSBC and the BWF. We can’t wait to interact with our clients, coworkers, and their badminton enthusiasm.

This will be the first time that the ticketing process for the Yonex-Sunrise India Open will be paperless with Ticmint being the official ticketing partner. Badminton fans can buy their tickets from https://indiaopen2025.ticmint.com/event/16347.
