Following the decline in the pandemic-era surge, investors have been shifting their investments elsewhere, and last month we observed a two-year decrease in prices for the most sought-after luxury watches on the secondary market.
June saw a little more than 1% fall in the Bloomberg Sub-dial Watch Index, which measures the 50 most traded watches by transaction value. Data from Sub-dial, a watch trading site based in the UK, indicates that it has decreased by 23% over the last two years and by 8% in the last year. In comparison, the US stock market benchmark, the S&P 500 Index, has increased by 27% during the last year.

During the early months of 2022, as people stuck at home poured their pandemic savings into luxury watches, high-end Swiss brands like Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, and Rolex saw a significant drop in worth. The Bloomberg Subdial Watch Index increased by 40% in the year ending June 2022, when the S&P 500 had a 1% decline.

Speculators who flooded the market with bets that watches would keep rising have been dispersed as equities and other investments provided higher profits, even if many of the most traded models are still exchanged for more than retail prices.

“Cartier watches usually sell for less than.” Certain brands are seeing price increases even in this recession. Due to the growing popularity of Cartier watches among collectors, the subdial index for watch prices has increased by 2% in the last 12 months. Richemont owns a French jewelry business. Watches of this brand hold significant retail value and are more affordable than those made by Patek, Audemars Piguet, or Rolex.

Most of the index’s models, Rolex, were essentially flat in June, but sibling brand Tudor saw a dip. Sub-dial data indicates that prices of entry-level luxury timepieces, the Cartier brand index, and the Omega brand index of Swatch Group AG all saw slight increases in value throughout the month.
