During Hyundai India Couture Week, designer Rimzim Dadu showcased an avant-garde interpretation of ancient buildings, including striking silhouettes and innovative textile methods. On July 30, the designer’s brand held a runway presentation in New Delhi, where Bollywood actress Sobhita Dhulipala stole the show.

Suits and dresses—mainstays of men’s and women’s event wear—were transformed into wearable artworks by the Pearl Academy’s Rimzim Dadu display. Dadu created wearable filigree, flowing dresses, and dinner coats that resembled armor using her trademark steel tread techniques.

Closing the presentation, Sobhita Dhulipala wore a tactile white ensemble that paired a floor-length skirt with a bralet that had flowing tendrils resembling fringe. To add sparkle and shine to the occasion, models donned jewelry by Narayan Jewels and shoes by Christian Louboutin.

Rimzim Dadu wrote on her brand’s Facebook page, “I love a sense of deception in my designs.”” Flexible and soft clothing has a rigid, armor-like appearance. Only the wearer is aware of this delicate yet powerful dynamic.

Since its 2007 debut, Rimzim Dadu’s eponymous brand has gained recognition for its flowing dresses constructed from minuscule steel wires that are stitched together to create a structured material. The brand sells its merchandise online and at its flagship store in Delhi’s DLF Emporio. Along with many other Bollywood stars, the company has dressed Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone.

The 17th edition of Hyundai India Couture Week takes place at the Taj Palace in New Delhi from July 24 to July 31. This season’s sponsors are Hyundai, Lotus Makeup, and Reliance Brands Limited. Runway shows are recorded and shared via the social media accounts of Hyundai India and the Fashion Design Council of India.
