A pioneering take on the Banarasi brocade, the new Tilfi collection, Quarter to Time, finds artistic
synergies between French Rococo art and Banarasi craftsmanship. Imagined in the liminal space between a dreamscape and reality, it subtly challenges our perceptions of time, evoking a sense of nostalgia and déjà vu while simultaneously revealing a fresh aesthetic in classical artistry.

An encounter of heritage artistries Marrying the emblematic codes of the Rococo period with the timeless allure of classic and celebratory Indian attire, the collection is a unique amalgamation of two heritage artistries. It seamlessly intertwines silhouettes that have defined feminine wardrobes across diverse cultures and eras. The collection’s campaign, set amidst the splendor of Indo-French architecture, alludes to a peculiarly ephemeral essence—a bittersweet sense of impermanence that softly weaves through the brushstrokes of the Rococo era.

The whimsical essence of Rococo Inspired by the ornate, yet light-hearted style of Rococo fashion and architecture, the collection features the finest Banarasi brocades, complemented with delicate color schemes and enchanting textile art. The garments incorporate Rococo elements such as frills, curving forms, and nature-inspired motifs on lavish silks.

Woven in pure Satin silk and Katan silk, the collection comprises seven distinct saree designs and five lehenga sets. The color palette is a symphony of pastels and delicate tones, from lavender to off- white, old rose, pink, peach, powder blue, and pista green. Banarasi Phekwa and Vasket art have been artfully employed to weave zari patterns reminiscent of Rococo’s gilded architectural wonders. Motifs of acanthus leaves, roses, lilies, lilacs, and poppies have been rendered in classic Kadhua and Meenakari weaves.

The handwoven and hand-embroidered lehenga sets include distinctive ruched blouses, adorned with signature Rococo elements like wide necklines, corseted bodices, and puffed sleeves. The collection also features a statement Tissue veil to complete an opulent bridal ensemble.

The collection will be available on Tilfi’s website and in the house’s flagship store in Banaras from September 8, 2023 onwards.
