Since its inception in 2005, P&G Shiksha has impacted more than 50 lakh children over the course of two decades by giving access to education and learning resources to children from thousands of underprivileged communities and schools.

Hundreds of volunteers from P&G, families, agency partners, distributors, and non-governmental organizations gathered throughout India on the International Day of Volunteers to invest in developing skills for the future.

The company that makes Whisper, Tide, Gillette, and other brands, Procter & Gamble India (P&G India), is commemorating 20 years since the launch of P&G Shiksha, its main Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. P&G Shiksha was initially established in 2005, long before the national CSR law took effect, with the goal of improving school facilities to give children in underprivileged communities access to education.

P&G Shiksha has steadfastly prioritized education as a key impact area over the past 20 years. In this regard, Shiksha has changed its emphasis from merely constructing school facilities to now emphasizing learning outcomes. In order to guarantee that every child learns with conceptual comprehension at their grade level, Shiksha’s activities now are focused on enhancing basic literacy and numeracy through the prevention and repair of learning gaps. P&G Shiksha has impacted more than 50 lakh children throughout the course of its 20 years of operation in thousands of villages and schools.

In one of P&G India’s biggest volunteering drives of its kind, hundreds of volunteers—including P&G employees, families, agency partners, distributor partners, and NGO volunteers—gathered at various locations throughout the nation to kick off the milestone celebrations on the International Day of Volunteers.

Through carefully chosen lesson plans that were adapted to the various requirements of kids in various places, the volunteers engaged hundreds of students. These included lessons on raising young children’s emotional intelligence, teaching them how to write stories together, educating them about the variety of job options available to them, and relatably describing the basic wonders of science. Sessions on resume writing, interview techniques, and mentorship insights were held for a select group of scholars of the P&G Shiksha Betiyan Scholarship, which offers financial assistance and mentorship to girls pursuing STEM education.

Mumbai, Hyderabad, Goa, Baddi, Mandideep, Bhiwadi, Ahmedabad, and Chennai were among the cities where the volunteer drive was organized simultaneously and on the same day.

P&G Shiksha places a lot of emphasis on Telangana, where it keeps using education to make a significant and long-lasting difference. In collaboration with well-known NGOs and the State Government, the initiative has been affecting thousands of children throughout the state, especially those living in underprivileged tribal areas. Through initiatives like Early Childhood Education and Digital Remedial Learning, the program is helping kids learn with conceptual knowledge in partnership with the state’s Tribal Welfare Department. Utilizing technology, P&G Shiksha is introducing “Mindspark,” an AI-powered adaptive learning tool that impacts thousands of children from tribal areas and personalizes instruction for students, as part of its Digital Remedial Learning program.

“P&G brands and P&G people are committed to helping communities around the world through meaningful actions that improve lives every day,” stated Kumar Venkatasubramanian, Chief Executive Officer, P&G India. Our company’s founders prioritized giving back from the beginning. This dedication and our goal of promoting ongoing good community impact via education are reflected in P&G Shiksha. Celebrating 20 years of effort and influence is a proud time. Therefore, we had to begin our festivities by addressing our two most important pillars: our people and the communities in which we live, work, and serve. It has been inspiring to see our staff, family, and partners unite in celebration of Shiksha’s 20th anniversary.

With this historic initiative, P&G Shiksha reaffirms its commitment to promoting inclusive education, encouraging meaningful engagement, and creating better futures for millions of children throughout India as it begins its 20th anniversary celebrations.
