PDEXCIL and AWARE™ Partner to Advance Digital Product Passport Readiness

The Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amsterdam-based AWARE™ during Bharat Tex 2026 to strengthen digital traceability and prepare India’s powerloom sector for upcoming European Union Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements.

The collaboration aims to equip Indian powerloom manufacturers with blockchain-enabled, fibre-level traceability solutions that help meet evolving global sourcing and compliance standards while ensuring producers retain ownership of their production data.

As the European Union rolls out Digital Product Passport regulations under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, textile manufacturers supplying European markets will increasingly require verified information on material origin, composition and production history. The partnership is designed to help Indian producers adapt to these emerging requirements.

AWARE™’s blockchain-based platform creates a unique data token for every production batch, recording authenticated details about fibre origin, composition and sustainability credentials. This digital record accompanies the product throughout the supply chain, enabling transparent traceability, blockchain-issued Crypto TCs®, and the data foundation needed for Digital Product Passports.

Commenting on the partnership, Feico van der Veen, Founder and Managing Director of AWARE™, said the company has developed its platform with producers at the centre, allowing supply chain data to originate at the manufacturing stage and remain under the producer’s ownership. He noted that verified, producer-controlled data will become increasingly important as international compliance requirements evolve.

Under the agreement, PDEXCIL will promote awareness of the technology among its members through workshops, webinars, training programmes and industry outreach initiatives. AWARE™ will offer preferential onboarding terms, technical support and training to verified PDEXCIL members adopting the platform.

K. Sakthivel, Chairman, PDEXCIL, said the partnership will help Indian powerloom manufacturers strengthen traceability capabilities, prepare for future Digital Product Passport requirements and enhance their competitiveness in international markets while maintaining ownership of their production data.

The organisations plan to begin pilot implementation projects with selected PDEXCIL member units, supporting the sector’s transition towards digitally verified, transparent and globally compliant textile supply chains.
