Rome: It’s no longer necessary to force your dog into the bathtub. Dolce & Gabbana, an Italian luxury fashion business, has introduced a new scent specifically designed for dogs.
For 99 euros, you can get an “alcohol-free scented mist for dogs” that includes a complimentary collar. However, animal rights organizations have warned that it can upset pets.
The scent’s promotional video opens with a sleek and soft Bichon Frisee, Dachshund, and Chihuahua posing on a stool with the tagline, “I am delicate, authentic, charismatic, and sensitive.”
“Cause I’m not just a dog; I’m Fefe,” it says.
The fragrance combines “fresh and delicate notes” of ylang ylang, musk, and sandalwood and is named after Domenico Dolce’s dog, who co-founded the company. “It’s a tender and embracing fragrance crafted for a playful beauty routine,” the business stated.
However, according to the global animal rights organization PETA, “squirting (dogs) with a fragrance designed to please humans, as this is, can upset them greatly.”
According to PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, dogs “have hundreds of millions more receptors in their nostrils and can smell 10,000 to 100,000 times better than humans,” as stated in an AFP statement.
Spraying their coats with perfume “can cause them irritation and distress and interfere with their ability to detect other smells in their environment and communicate with other animals they encounter,” she stated. (AFP)
