A total of 315 students from NIFT Mumbai participated in the NIFT Joint Convocation 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The ceremony brought together graduates from 18 NIFT campuses across India. It celebrated their academic achievements and marked the start of their professional journeys.
The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the event as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao and NIFT Director General Smt. Tanu Kashyap, IAS.
The event also saw members of the Board of Governors, Prof. Dr. Ajit Kumar Khare, Director, NIFT Mumbai, directors of other NIFT campuses and other distinguished guests.
President Highlights Sustainability and Cultural Heritage
Addressing the graduates, President Droupadi Murmu urged them to remain globally competitive while staying connected to India’s culture and values.
She also praised NIFT’s Craft Cluster Initiative. The initiative supports weavers and artisans through modern design and market links.
In addition, the President stressed the need for sustainable products. She encouraged graduates to use local materials and turn textile waste into valuable resources.
She called on students to support traditional artisans. Furthermore, she urged them to contribute to Viksit Bharat 2047 through innovation, social responsibility and inclusive growth.
Leaders Encourage Skill Development and Innovation
Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh encouraged graduates to dream big and work hard. He also urged them to play an active role in India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
Meanwhile, Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao congratulated the students. She encouraged them to keep learning and upgrading their skills. This, she noted, would help them explore new opportunities in textiles, fashion and the creative sectors.
NIFT Mumbai Students Receive Awards
The ceremony also recognised the achievements of NIFT Mumbai’s graduating students. Awards honoured their academic performance, creativity, innovation and professional merit.
The honours included:
- 10 Gold Medal Awards
- 31 Graduation Show Awards
- 16 Meritorious Awards
These awards recognised students across different disciplines for their talent, hard work and achievements.
Degrees Conferred at the Convocation
During the ceremony, NIFT Director General Smt. Tanu Kashyap administered the pledge to the graduating students and symbolically conferred their degrees.
Following the main ceremony in New Delhi, each campus held its own degree distribution ceremony. As a result, students could formally receive their degrees within their respective academic communities.
The event concluded with the National Song and National Anthem, marking the graduates’ transition into professional life.
NIFT Reaffirms Focus on Creative Excellence
The NIFT Joint Convocation 2026 highlighted the institute’s focus on creativity, innovation, sustainability and excellence. It also encouraged graduates to contribute to India’s fashion, textile and creative industries.
As they begin their careers, the graduates are set to apply their skills and knowledge across these sectors.
