NIFT Mumbai Students Participate in NIFT Joint Convocation 2026
315 graduating students joined peers from 18 NIFT campuses at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, for a ceremony graced by President Droupadi Murmu.
A total of 315 students from NIFT Mumbai participated in the prestigious NIFT Joint Convocation 2026, held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The ceremony brought together graduating students from 18 NIFT campuses across the country to celebrate their academic achievements and mark the beginning of their professional journeys.
The historic occasion was graced by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh; Secretary (Textiles), Smt. Neelam Shami Rao; Director General, NIFT, Smt. Tanu Kashyap, IAS; members of the Board of Governors; Prof. Dr. Ajit Kumar Khare, Director, NIFT Mumbai; Directors of other NIFT campuses and distinguished dignitaries.
President Highlights Sustainability and Cultural Heritage
Addressing the graduating students, President Droupadi Murmu encouraged NIFT graduates to remain globally competitive while staying connected to India’s cultural roots and values.
She appreciated NIFT’s Craft Cluster Initiative for empowering weavers and artisans through modern design and market linkages. Emphasising sustainability, the President urged students to develop environmentally responsible products using local materials and transforming textile waste into valuable resources.
She also called upon graduates to support traditional artisans and contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through innovation, social responsibility and inclusive growth.
Encouraging the Next Generation of Creative Professionals
Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh urged graduating students to dream big, work hard and become an integral driving force in India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
Secretary, Textiles, Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to pursue continuous learning and skill upgradation to take advantage of emerging opportunities across the textile, fashion and creative sectors.
NIFT Mumbai Students Recognised for Excellence
The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of NIFT Mumbai’s graduating students through awards recognising academic excellence, creativity, innovation and professional merit.
The honours included:
- 10 Gold Medal Awards
- 31 Graduation Show Awards
- 16 Meritorious Awards
The awards recognised the talent, dedication and accomplishments of students across diverse disciplines.
During the ceremony, the Director General, NIFT administered the pledge to graduating students and symbolically conferred their degrees. Following the central ceremony in New Delhi, campus-wise degree distribution ceremonies were conducted, allowing students to formally receive their degrees within their respective academic communities.
The Convocation 2026 concluded with the National Song and National Anthem, marking the transition of NIFT graduates into the professional world.
The ceremony reaffirmed NIFT’s focus on nurturing creativity, innovation, sustainability and excellence, while encouraging graduates to contribute meaningfully to India’s fashion, textile and creative industries.
