In a major push toward academic inclusivity and grassroots career awareness, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Daman organized ‘Summer Camp 2026’ on its campus.  Aligning with the national directives laid out by the Director General of NIFT, the campus outreach initiative aimed to give local school students early, hands-on exposure to a premium academic environment.

The day-long immersion program welcomed a delegation of 43 enthusiastic students from the 10th and 11th standards of the Government High School, Pariyari Gram Panchayat (Jampore Beach, Moti Daman), accompanied by four of their school faculty members. The primary goal was to demystify creative disciplines and introduce students to experiential learning processes across fashion, design, technology, and management.

The event commenced with a detailed 30-minute academic orientation led by Dr. Vidhu Sekhar, Campus Academic Coordinator. Dr. Sekhar walked the students through NIFT Daman’s flagship Undergraduate programs, placing special emphasis on Textile Design (TD) and Fashion Design (FD).

A critical highlight of the session was an awareness drive regarding the special Domicile Reservation Quota reserved for students of the Union Territory. By outlining these provisions, the session successfully demonstrated to local youths how they can access world-class professional design education right in their home region.

To experience actual design pedagogy firsthand, the visiting school delegation was taken on a guided walkthrough of NIFT’s high-tech infrastructure. Students browsed through an extensive repository of global design literature, trend forecasting materials, textile samples, and historic garment archives.  The young visitors stepped into active workshops, including the Weaving, Sewing, Pattern Making, and Surface Design Labs. Departmental faculty and specialized laboratory assistants gave live demonstrations of industry-grade machinery, explaining the fascinating journey from raw yarn to finished fashion apparel. Beyond academics, the students explored NIFT’s recreational ecosystem, touring the campus Gymnasium and Music Room to experience the institute’s focus on well-rounded student development.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Mr. Khusal Jangid, Campus Director of NIFT Daman, highlighted NIFT’s focus on community empowerment. “The core objective of this Summer Camp is to enrich and empower promising local talent, guiding them toward securing admissions at NIFT,” stated Mr. Jangid. “This initiative perfectly embodies the inclusive approach of the Government, successfully bridging the gap between premium institutional infrastructure and community-level aspirants.”  The Summer Camp wrapped up on a high note, leaving the students deeply inspired by the prospects of a future career in design. The visit was organized with the coordination of Mr. Bhavik, the Sarpanch of Pariyari Gram Panchayat.
