The G20 Finance Ministers’ Culture Dinner, scheduled for July 16, will feature a highly anticipated fashion show organized by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Gandhinagar. The theme of the show, according to NIFT officials, will revolve around the concept of panchtatva, which refers to the five elements.

Renowned fashion designers Ritu Beri, Anju Modi, and Payal Jain have teamed up with NIFT-G to create and present three out of the five captivating sequences at the event, as announced by Prof Sameer Sood, the director of NIFT-G. He highlighted that the event’s overarching theme aligns with PM Narendra Modi’s visionary approach of fostering a “people to planet” connection to achieve a sustainable future. Every segment of the runway presentation will symbolize a different aspect among the five elements: air, flames, soil, waves, and heavens.

One of the primary goals of the event is to showcase the rich traditional arts and crafts of India. The wind sequence will incorporate various intricate techniques such as jacquard, mashru, marori, zardozi, and foil printing. The water sequence, on the other hand, will feature resist dyeing techniques like bandhani, batik, laheria, shibori, as well as block printing styles such as ajrakh, bagru, and bagh. Lastly, the earth sequence will highlight the artistic mastery of techniques like Mata ni pachedi, pichhvai, kalamkari, and more.

Prof Sood emphasized that the fashion show and the accompanying cultural event will not only be a celebration of the unity in diversity but also an opportunity to showcase the exceptional skills and craftsmanship of India’s artisanal heritage. It serves as a platform for the fusion of traditional art forms and modern fashion, allowing the global audience to appreciate and experience the richness and depth of India’s cultural traditions.

With its focus on sustainability and prime objective of fostering global unity, the event aligns perfectly with PM Narendra Modi’s vision. As an integral part of the G20 Finance Ministers’ Culture Dinner, the fashion show promises to be a captivating display of creativity, talent, and heritage, attracting attention from dignitaries and guests alike.
