NIFT Daman Connects Students with Textile Manufacturing
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Daman, organised an industry visit for its 3rd-semester B.Des. Textile Design students to Raymond Ltd.’s facility in Vapi.
The visit took place in the major textile manufacturing belt of Gujarat and Maharashtra. It offered students direct exposure to industrial textile production.
Faculty Coordinator Dr. Chetram Meena led the visit. A group of 26 students toured Raymond’s integrated textile manufacturing facility.
The facility is known for its large-scale suiting and shirting production. It also provided students with a practical view of modern textile manufacturing systems.
Students Explore End-to-End Textile Processes
The visit covered several stages of textile production. These included yarn preparation, weaving, digital printing, rotary printing, dyeing and chemical processing.
Students also observed export-grade quality testing processes. This helped them understand how textile products move from initial preparation to finished production.
During the tour, students examined high-speed rapier and air-jet looms. They also observed automated colour kitchens and design repeat settings.
The group further explored specialised finishing processes. These included mercerisation, calendering and stentering.
As a result, students gained a clearer understanding of how technology supports efficiency and consistency in textile production.
Linking Classroom Learning with Industry
An interactive session with Raymond’s plant head and design team added further value to the visit.
Students connected their academic subjects with real-world textile production. These subjects included Woven Structure, Yarn Studies and Textile Processing.
The interaction also highlighted the link between textile design and commercial collection development. In addition, students gained insights into large-scale and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Such exposure can help students understand the technical and commercial requirements of the textile industry.
NIFT Daman Strengthens Industry-Ready Education
NIFT Daman continues to use its location near major textile hubs to strengthen practical learning opportunities.
The institute benefits from its proximity to Vapi, Surat, Ahmedabad and Bhiwandi. These locations form important textile and apparel manufacturing centres.
The industrial visit also supports NIFT Daman’s focus on industry-ready education. It gives students an opportunity to observe professional processes beyond the classroom.
Coordinated by the Department of Textile Design, the visit was mentored and led by subject faculty Dr. Chetram Meena.
Through initiatives like these, NIFT Daman continues to connect academic learning with the evolving needs of the global fashion and textile industry.
