Leveraging its strategic location near the major industrial textile corridors of Gujarat and Maharashtra, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Daman, organized an immersive industry visit for its 3rd-semester B.Des. Textile Design students to Raymond Ltd.’s state-of-the-art facility in Vapi today. Led by Faculty Coordinator Dr. Chetram Meena, a cohort of 26 students toured one of India’s most advanced integrated textile manufacturing plants, known globally for its world-class suiting and shirting production. The visit provided first-hand exposure to end-to-end industrial workflows, seamlessly bridging classroom theory with shop-floor execution across yarn preparation, weaving, digital and rotary printing, dyeing, chemical processing, and export-grade quality testing.
During the comprehensive facility tour, students closely observed Raymond’s high-speed rapier and air-jet looms, automated color kitchens, design repeat settings, and specialized finishing treatments such as mercerization, calendering, and stentering. The interactive session with Raymond’s plant head and design team allowed students to directly connect their core curriculum—including Woven Structure, Yarn Studies, and Textile Processing—to commercial collection development and large-scale, sustainable manufacturing practices. By capitalizing on its proximity to major textile hubs like Vapi, Surat, Ahmedabad, and Bhiwandi, NIFT Daman continues to reinforce its commitment to practical, industry-ready education, preparing the next generation of design professionals to lead in the evolving global fashion landscape. Coordinated by the Department of Textile Design, the industrial visit was mentored and led by subject faculty Dr. Chetram Meena.
