Mozez Singh Encourages Creative Expression at JD Design Awards 2026
Renowned filmmaker and designer Mozez Singh engaged with aspiring designers at the JD Design Awards 2026, organised by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, through a fireside chat, interactive session and a felicitation ceremony recognising his contribution to the creative industry.
Held as part of the four-day design showcase, the session brought together students, faculty members and industry professionals for discussions on fashion, storytelling, creativity and design innovation.
During a fireside conversation on Luxury Design, Mozez reflected on his creative journey and explored the evolving relationship between storytelling, craftsmanship and luxury. Drawing from his experience in both filmmaking and fashion, he encouraged students to develop their own creative identity rather than following fleeting trends.
Speaking to the audience, he highlighted the importance of authenticity and individuality in the design process. He said, “Fashion helps you express yourself and figure out who you are.” His interaction encouraged young designers to view fashion as a powerful medium of personal expression alongside a professional career.
In recognition of his contribution to the creative industry, Mozez Singh was honoured as a Visionary Filmmaker by Mr Yogesh Dalal, Trustee, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, and Dr Payal Dalal, Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology.
The Mumbai edition of JD Design Awards 2026 concluded with a fashion showcase at St. Andrews Auditorium, where 87 student designers presented 37 collections inspired by Indian heritage, art and craftsmanship, interpreted through a contemporary perspective. The four-day event also featured The Stock Room, an initiative that enabled students to exhibit and sell their creations while gaining practical insights into the business side of the fashion industry. The event welcomed 1,334 attendees, including industry leaders, buyers, media representatives, alumni and design enthusiasts, reinforcing its role as a platform connecting emerging talent with the fashion industry.
Reflecting on the event, Mozez Singh said, “The interaction with young designers who are just starting their creative journey is always inspiring. What stood out to me was their willingness to experiment and express themselves through their design. Fashion is personal, and I hope they continue to trust their instincts, be authentic, and design that reflects who they truly are.”
Commenting on the initiative, Mr Rinesh Dalal, Director of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, emphasised the importance of providing students with opportunities to engage with accomplished creative professionals and gain practical industry exposure beyond the classroom.
He added, “The interaction with Mozez Singh added valuable insights into creativity, authenticity, and self-expression. At JD Design Awards, such opportunities are as crucial as showcasing students’ talents. We hope young designers take inspiration from such sessions to continue creating with confidence, authenticity and creativity.”
For more than 27 years, the JD Design Awards has served as a platform for emerging designers to present their work, connect with industry experts and gain valuable real-world experience. The 2026 Mumbai edition continued this legacy by fostering collaboration, mentorship and meaningful industry engagement for the next generation of creative talent.
