The residence brings together British architectural heritage, Indian cultural influences and contemporary Italian design curated by Palazzo Molteni Milano.

Molteni&C has furnished a private villa in Battersea, one of South London’s vibrant residential neighbourhoods, creating a contemporary home that brings together British architectural heritage, Indian cultural influences and an international design sensibility curated by Palazzo Molteni Milano.

Owned by an Indian couple with global backgrounds, the residence reflects a lifestyle shaped by different cultures and cities. The homeowners, she a former investment banker from New Delhi and he a finance professional originally from Tamil Nadu, met in New York before establishing their home in London. Their vision was to create a residence that balances elegance and functionality while expressing their personal identity.

British Heritage Meets Tropical Modernism

From the street, the villa retains the character of a traditional British townhouse, with a refined entrance influenced by the architectural language of Vincent Van Duysen. Behind the historic façade, however, the original property has been substantially expanded through the incorporation of a former banana warehouse.

The transformation has created a light-filled architectural composition inspired by Tropical Modernism, establishing a continuous relationship between the interior and exterior spaces.

This connection with nature is central to the design approach. The interiors are arranged across interconnected split levels, creating a fluid sequence of open-plan environments. Generous volumes, natural light and carefully framed views of the garden contribute to a sense of openness and continuity.

Wooden walls are strategically positioned throughout the interiors to subtly define individual spaces while maintaining visual connections between them.

The Ground Floor as a Social Hub

The ground floor serves as the social heart of the residence, with the VVD Kitchen by Vincent Van Duysen positioned as the focal point of everyday life. Seamlessly integrated with the living area, the kitchen connects with the Marteen sofa and 505 system, reflecting Molteni&C’s contemporary design language.

The kitchen island functions as a gathering point for informal meals and daily interactions. It is complemented by Woody stools by Francesco Meda, whose clean design and craftsmanship contribute to the understated character of the interior.

The dining area sits between the kitchen and living room, creating a natural transition between the home’s culinary and social spaces. It features the Half a Square table by Michael Anastassiades, paired with Devon chairs by Rodolfo Dordoni.

Together, these furnishings create an environment defined by rich materials, architectural clarity and a seamless flow between different functions.

The Battersea villa demonstrates Molteni&C’s approach to contemporary residential interiors, combining Italian design, tailored furnishings and architectural thinking within a home shaped by its owners’ multicultural identity and London setting.
