The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) to strengthen evidence-based policymaking in the Textile and Apparel (T&A) sector.
The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony held at GPOA 3, Netaji Nagar, New Delhi. The MoU was signed by Shri Akhilesh Kumar, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Textiles, and Dr. Shekhar Aiyar, Director & Chief Executive, ICRIER.
The partnership reflects the Government’s continued focus on developing data-driven, analytically robust policy frameworks for one of India’s most important sectors, which plays a critical role in manufacturing output, exports, and employment generation.
Through this collaboration, ICRIER will provide technical expertise and research support to strengthen textile sector data systems and enable deeper policy analysis. The initiative is expected to enhance the quality of decision-making through structured economic research and sector-specific insights.
By integrating academic research capabilities with policy requirements, the MoU aims to support long-term strategic planning and improve the competitiveness and efficiency of India’s textile and apparel ecosystem.
