The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). The partnership aims to strengthen evidence-based policymaking in India’s Textile and Apparel (T&A) sector.
MoU Signed in New Delhi
The signing ceremony took place at GPOA 3, Netaji Nagar, New Delhi. Shri Akhilesh Kumar, Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Textiles, signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry. Dr. Shekhar Aiyar, Director and Chief Executive of ICRIER, signed on behalf of the research institution.
The partnership supports the Government’s focus on data-driven policy development. India’s textile and apparel sector contributes to manufacturing, exports and employment.
Focus on Research and Textile Sector Data
Under the agreement, ICRIER will provide technical expertise and research support. The work will focus on strengthening textile sector data systems and enabling deeper policy analysis.
The collaboration aims to improve decision-making through structured economic research and sector-specific insights. It will also bring academic research and government policy needs closer together.
Supporting Long-Term Sector Growth
The MoU aims to support long-term strategic planning for India’s textile and apparel sector. Better data and research could help policymakers assess industry needs and develop more effective policies.
