In a game-changing move, Meesho, a key player in digital retail, proudly announces the successful onboarding of nearly 25,000 non-GST sellers since October 2023. This strategic step comes after Meesho adapted its technology to allow non-GST sellers in India to join the platform starting October 1, 2023, aligning with the GST Council’s decision to empower e-commerce platforms to bring on board non-GST sellers with a turnover of up to Rs 40 lakhs. This move is reshaping the retail scene, ushering in millions of new sellers into the digital commerce revolution.
Over the last two months, non-GST sellers have made up 40% of Meesho’s new registrations, representing over 20 states. This diverse group includes retailers and small manufacturers who previously sold through social media platforms like Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and their own websites. These new sellers have added an impressive 1.3 lakh product listings to Meesho, with more than 80% being exclusive to the platform. The range includes home decor, kitchen appliances, handmade jewelry, sarees, jute bags, fragrances, and more, meeting customers’ needs with a unique and affordable selection.
Megha Agarwal, CXO Business at Meesho, highlighted that onboarding nearly 25,000 non-GST sellers aligns with Meesho’s commitment to creating an inclusive digital ecosystem. Each new seller, according to Agarwal, represents a unique story and dream, embodying the vision for a diverse and empowered online marketplace. With a goal to digitize 10 million sellers by 2027, Meesho continues to drive innovation and embrace the government’s decision to eliminate mandatory GST registration for small online businesses.
Meesho’s tech upgrades for non-GST sellers include a simplified registration process, easy catalogue uploads, geo-restricted product discovery, and transparent shipping labels. The platform is also developing tailored educational content on the Supplier Panel and YouTube to empower non-GST sellers in navigating e-commerce and fueling business growth.
