In the dynamic city of Bangalore, Designuru 4.5, organized by the Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) Bengaluru, honors design that sits at the nexus of creativity, art, culture, and architecture. By challenging traditional views of design through provocative exhibits, workshops, keynote addresses, a display of award-winning work, fireside conversations, and much more, the sixth edition of this collaborative festival aims to establish Bengaluru as the design capital. The magnificent Rosso Collemandina stone was used to create the work, A Shared Memory, by Marble Centre International (MCI), the leading importer of luxury marble and natural stone.
A Shared Memory is a sensory investigation of the subtle and overlooked elements that contribute to Bangalore’s urban appeal. The installation inspires awe for the familiar and hidden by drawing inspiration from rain-kissed trees, latticed jaali windows, and complex architectural elements that subtly tell the city’s common history. Viewers are prompted to stop and think as Rosso Collemandina’s rich textures, changing light, and shadows create a narrative of ephemeral yet everlasting moments.
Marble, which is frequently thought of as being timeless, is transformed into something surprisingly vibrant and active in this installation. It presents the material as light, lively, and dynamic by challenging its weight and rigidity with its finely carved façade and rotating base. Rosso Collemandina’s earthy richness is transformed into a canvas for moving patterns that evoke the movement and vitality of sunshine filtered through due-laden foliage or the exquisite tracery of jaali windows.
“At Marble Centre International, we think that design has the ability to change perspectives,” stated Rahul Maheshwari, director of the installation. We aimed to honor Bengaluru’s multifaceted beauty—its soul, memories, and architecture—with A Shared Memory. The ideal medium for this story was Rosso Collemandina, who brought the concept to life by fusing beauty and vigor. Being a part of Designuru’s mission to make Bangalore a global center for design excites us.
“It’s amazing how materials can change and interact with their surroundings to tell a story,” stated the architects of A Shared Memory. It was a thrilling chance to push the limits of what marble, which is typically thought of as a hefty, permanent material, can symbolize to work with Marble Centre International on A Shared Memory. We were able to investigate the subtle interaction of light, shadow, and movement because to Rosso Collemandina’s deep, earthy tones and complex textures, which perfectly captured the spirit of Bengaluru’s urban landscape. Through MCI’s skill, we’ve turned the stone into something that feels both eternal and dynamic, much like the city itself. This piece pays attention to the little things that people overlook about the city.
Beyond exhibitions, Designuru 4.5 encourages communication and cooperation between architects, artists, and industry leaders. Wait a minute. Remind yourself that even the most resilient materials may convey tales of life and adaptability by pausing and allowing A Shared Memory to direct your gaze toward the cityscape’s ever-evolving, ever-present beauty.
