The British Council’s Making Matters exhibition is currently captivating the fashion-forward city of New Delhi. This groundbreaking showcase highlights the innovative collaborations between India and the UK in the realm of sustainable fashion, textiles, and technology.

A Sustainable Future for Fashion

Open until December 9th, 2024, the exhibition delves into the pressing global challenges faced by the fashion industry and presents potential solutions that prioritise ethical and sustainable practices. Key partners such as Fashion Revolution, the Fashion, Textile and Technology Institute, the University of the Arts London, and the United Nations have come together to curate a diverse range of projects and initiatives.

Spotlight on Sustainable Innovations

The exhibition features several cutting-edge projects that are redefining the future of fashion:

  • Circular Khadi: This project champions the revival of traditional Indian textile techniques, focusing on recycling textile waste into new yarn and fabrics. By supporting rural artisans and promoting low-carbon production methods, Circular Khadi offers a sustainable and socially responsible approach to fashion.
  • BEQUIN: This innovative project introduces eco-friendly sequins made from algae and cellulose. By providing a sustainable alternative to traditional sequins, BEQUIN caters to the growing demand for luxury fashion with a conscience.
  • Darn: This platform bridges the gap between consumers and skilled garment menders in India. By preserving traditional repair techniques, Darn encourages consumers to extend the life of their clothing and reduce textile waste.

Beyond the Showcase

The Making Matters exhibition is more than just a showcase; it’s an interactive platform that invites visitors to explore research findings, hands-on toolkits, and entrepreneurial innovations. The event aims to inspire collaboration, foster dialogue, and strengthen the bond between India and the UK in the pursuit of sustainable fashion practices.
