According to LookFantastic’s annual beauty trends report, M.A.C Cosmetics has been recognized as the “biggest” beauty brand in 2023, largely attributed to the success of its dewy skin tint launch. The report, analyzing internal data and popular searches on platforms like TikTok and Google, highlights trends in skincare, hair, and makeup that influenced the beauty industry in 2023.
M.A.C Cosmetics claimed the top spot due to the widespread popularity of its dewy skin tint, which led to repeated sellouts. The beauty retailer’s website saw 214,477 searches for M.A.C Cosmetics products, and the brand garnered an additional 4 million searches on TikTok.
Securing the second position was skincare brand CeraVe, recognized for its accessibility across various price points and a stellar expert reputation, making it a staple for many skincare routines. La Roche-Posay secured the third spot with its range of dermatologist-approved SPFs, cleansers, and moisturizers.
The best-selling product of the year was identified as Sol de Janeiro’s three-piece bodycare Bum Bum Jet set. Known for its pistachio and salted caramel-scented products, the brand recorded 130,792 searches on LookFantastic’s website and 664,000 on TikTok.
The title of the biggest exploding brand went to skincare brand Drunk Elephant, largely influenced by the “Alix Earle effect.” The brand experienced a 480 percent increase in site searches on LookFantastic, driven by the viral popularity of influencer Alix Earle’s makeup videos featuring Drunk Elephant Bronzing drops.
Hair health took center stage in 2023, with Color Wow emerging as a standout brand. Its dream coat supernatural spray, promising waterproof, heatproof, and shiny hair, contributed to a 128 percent increase in searches on the website, making it the second-largest exploding brand of the year.
2023 was characterized by microtrends influenced by celebrities, including the ‘Scandi hairline,’ ‘Cowgirl copper’ hair trend, ‘latte makeup’ for a bronzed creamy radiance, ‘blueberry milk nails,’ and ‘cherry cola lips,’ inspired by Lana Del Rey, driving beauty enthusiasts to embrace brown and berry shades for a high-gloss pout.
