In a significant legal victory for luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton, the Delhi High Court has issued an injunction against home décor and furnishing company Spread Home. The court order prohibits Spread Home from using specific registered trademarks owned by LV, including the iconic monogram flower mark, on its products such as bed sheets, quilts, and pillow covers.
Louis Vuitton argued that the use of these distinctive marks by Spread Home could mislead consumers into believing there’s an association between the two companies. The court agreed, finding that LV had established a strong case for the injunction.
Spread Home, founded in 1999, offers a wide range of home furnishings, including bedding, bath accessories, and decorative items. The company operates both online and offline sales channels.
In response to the lawsuit, Spread Home claimed that they had discontinued the sale of products bearing the monogram flower mark. However, the court found that LV would suffer irreparable harm if the injunction was not granted.
To assess potential damages, the court has ordered Spread Home to submit a detailed financial report outlining their sales figures since they began using the disputed designs.
The case highlights the increasing vigilance of Indian courts in protecting intellectual property rights, particularly in the luxury fashion industry. In recent years, the Delhi High Court has issued several rulings against counterfeiters and trademark infringers, safeguarding the reputation of renowned brands like Louis Vuitton.
