Famous names in 20th-century art and design served as inspiration for Jonathan Anderson’s collection at La Garde Républicaine in Paris. The creative director of Loewe channelled the aesthetics of Paul Thek, Carlo Scarpa, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Susan Sontag, and Peter Hujar.
Feathered models with covered faces displayed exquisite tailoring and accuracy as they walked the catwalk in fairy tale-like designs. Key components of the collection, including as metallic waistcoats, bare-chested ensembles, floral formal shirts, and glossy leather finishes, emphasised a spirit of liberation and mythological influence.
In the Loewe collection, checks were the main design element. A hand-embroidered polo shirt with a houndstooth pattern displayed exquisite craftsmanship. The white shirts’ use of Japanese Shibori dyeing demonstrated Loewe’s dedication to using age-old craft methods. Belts made of ostrich leather connected shirts and trousers, highlighting the waist and subtly commenting on the masculine form and style of clothing.
