Liverpool One, operated by Grosvenor, has had an impressive start to the year, marking its most robust beginning since 2018. The mall, which garnered attention throughout 2023 for its success and new retailer signings, has continued its positive momentum, anticipating that 2024 could surpass the achievements of the previous year. A notable 10% increase in visitor numbers during the first week of January compared to 2023 contributes to this optimistic outlook.
The success follows what Liverpool One described as its “busiest ever” Christmas in 2023, where sales and visitor numbers reached an all-time high. During the festive period, the destination hosted over 3.9 million visitors, reflecting a 1.9% rise from 2022 figures. Grosvenor emphasized Liverpool One’s sector-leading growth, highlighting a 3.5% drop in footfall across the country’s retail hotspots, positioning Liverpool One ahead by five points, according to ShopperTrak footfall benchmark data.
Year-on-year sales at the center increased by 5.3%, with entertainment, beauty, and menswear emerging as popular purchase categories. The growth is attributed to leading brands continuing to invest in the city, accompanied by fresh leisure and entertainment offerings, contributing to a steady flow of visitors.
Specifically, the addition of Space NK boosted beauty sales, while menswear sales benefited from brand expansions like Boss. In 2023, Liverpool One welcomed 25 brands, totaling 275,000 sq ft. Major openings, including Gravity MAX and M&S, were part of Grosvenor’s asset management initiative. Flagship stores from renowned brands like Swarovski, Hollister, Sweaty Betty, and others added to the mall’s appeal. Additionally, 27 brands renewed or regeared, securing 105,000 sq ft of space. Liverpool One’s positive trajectory continues, with a promising start to the new year.
