The CFDA’s inaugural Stylist Award will be given to Law Roach at this year’s ceremony and celebration.
With a 20-year career, the Los Angeles-based stylist is one of the most sought-after fashion stylists today. In addition to serving as the West Coast Editor of British Vogue, a judge on America’s Top Model, and the creator of the HBO Max series Legendary, Mr. Roach has transformed the appearance of other famous clients, including Celine Dion, Zendaya, and Hunter Schafer.
Law Roach stated: “My job is highly emotional in a CFDA interview. My relationship with clothing and fashion is deeply personal and in some ways even divine. I consequently seek out items that make me feel that way. I have a dream. That’s probably the one if I stare at it, think about it, and dream about it.
It’s important to recognise the importance of styling in the fashion industry. In fashion publications, the stylist serves as an image-architect who establishes the zeitgeist, just as the stylist also designs iconic red carpet moments. Since stylists frequently serve as an external eye for brands, many creative directors collaborate closely with stylists to hone their brand identities. Consider Marc Jacobs and Katie Grand, Demna and Lotta Volkova at Vetements and Balenciaga, and Nicolas Ghesquière and Marie-Amélie Sauvé at Louis Vuitton.
On November 7, the CFDA Awards will be presented in collaboration with Amazon Fashion.
