Khaite’s latest runway spectacle transported attendees to a world reminiscent of G. W. Pabst’s films, with dark, jet-black halls and a catwalk resembling shimmering black ice. Catherine Holstein, the creative mind behind Khaite, showcased her fall 2024 collection amidst an intoxicatingly Expressionist ambiance.
The collection exuded a sense of austere elegance, with models donning Stasi-chic leather spy coats and sharply sculpted garments. Each piece seemed to be meticulously crafted, with fabrics draped and sculpted into shape, evoking a raw emotional intensity.
Against the backdrop of global turmoil, it’s no surprise to witness the resurgence of Expressionism in fashion. This artistic movement, known for its emphasis on personal experiences and darker moods, was reflected in Khaite’s show, accompanied by a somber rock soundtrack.
Holstein’s designs exuded authority and power, featuring exaggerated proportions and sculptural elements. Each garment was a testament to her focused vision as a designer, showcasing molded silk gazar tops and rippling cocoon coats with effortless sophistication.
