Khadi Fashion Show Celebrates Inclusion with Transgender Models

A Historic Celebration of Khadi and Inclusion

The Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, in partnership with designer Rosy Ahluwalia, hosted a landmark Fashion Cultural Show dedicated to Khadi. The event highlighted identity, inclusivity, and India’s textile legacy. It was supported by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and organised under the leadership of Col. Akash Patil, Director of the Centre. The show embraced the theme, “We The People.”

Leadership That Strengthened the Initiative

Col. Patil’s leadership shaped the event’s direction. His guidance encouraged meaningful participation from designers, stakeholders, and community representatives. As a result, the showcase became a strong platform for empowerment and cultural pride.

Transgender Models Redefine Representation

The show featured transgender models presenting Khadi ensembles. Their presence set a new benchmark for diversity in Indian fashion. The presentation also positioned Khadi as a symbol of dignity, empowerment, and national pride. Furthermore, it amplified the voices and visibility of the transgender community.

Panel: ‘Transgender Journeys Unveiled’

The event opened with a panel discussion titled “Transgender Journeys Unveiled.” Speakers included Rudrani Chettri, Founder of Mitr Trust; Abhina Aher, Chief Executive, TWEET Foundation; and Dr. Amarendra Khatua IFS, Former Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs.
They shared experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Their insights encouraged dialogue on social acceptance, inclusion, and equal opportunities.

The Walk of Dignity

Next came the “Walk of Dignity”, the most anticipated segment of the evening. Transgender models showcased Rosy Ahluwalia’s Khadi designs with confidence and grace. The segment blended fashion and social messaging, celebrating individuality, courage, and representation.

Rosy Ahluwalia has continually championed handcrafted textiles and gender inclusivity. Her work blends traditional craftsmanship with modern style. In this showcase, her creations honoured stories of resilience and empowerment.
