Inthing, the homegrown fashion and apparel company with roots dating back to 1958, is entering its next phase of growth as it expands its presence into global markets.
The international expansion marks a significant milestone for the multi-generational business, which has evolved over 68 years from fabric trading and textile manufacturing into an integrated fashion and apparel enterprise.
With the third generation taking a more active role, Inthing plans to leverage its manufacturing experience, supply-chain capabilities and distribution expertise to establish a wider international footprint.
A key part of its scale-up strategy is the consolidation of its production network into a hub-and-spoke structure. Three Master Units operate as central manufacturing hubs, supported by nine smaller units, enabling greater coordination and a more integrated production ecosystem.
The global expansion is expected to build on these existing capabilities rather than operate as a standalone export initiative. Inthing aims to use its manufacturing scale, industry experience and established supply-chain ecosystem as the foundation for its international growth.
For a company whose journey began with fabric trading nearly seven decades ago, entering global markets represents another stage in its transformation from trading to manufacturing, from manufacturing to building a fashion brand, and now from a strong domestic presence to international ambitions.
Driving the company’s next chapter is Akshat Bhutra, the third generation of the family business and son of Manmohan Bhutra. His entry into the business has brought a sharper focus on manufacturing consolidation, operational efficiency, scalability and preparing Inthing for opportunities beyond the Indian market.
Today, Inthing operates a manufacturing ecosystem supported by approximately 1,500 employees, with an annual production capacity of around 18 lakh garments. Its manufacturing infrastructure comprises three Master Units spread across approximately 1.5 lakh sq. ft., connected to nine smaller manufacturing units through an integrated hub-and-spoke model.
The company’s manufacturing strength is complemented by a domestic distribution network of 200+ wholesalers and more than 10,000 retailers, reaching approximately 300 cities across 25 states and six Union Territories.
The scale has been built steadily over multiple generations. Inthing’s origins can be traced to 1958, when B.K. Maheshwari and Ramesh Arora began their entrepreneurial journey in fabric trading. Over time, the business moved towards backward integration, developing capabilities spanning yarn and fabric through to garment manufacturing.
The next phase came with Manmohan Bhutra and Amit Arora, who explored opportunities across fabric exports and garment retail before building a consumer-facing fashion brand of their own.
“For us, going global is a natural progression of what has been built over the last 68 years. We have spent decades strengthening our understanding of manufacturing, products and distribution, and the focus now is to take these capabilities to a much larger market. As the next generation, my responsibility is to preserve the strengths that have brought us this far while building the systems, scale and outlook required for Inthing to compete globally. – Akshat Bhutra, Inthing.
