Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics has unveiled PARADOX as the central theme for Spring/Summer 2027. The concept reflects a renewed optimism, encouraging consumers to reconnect with emotion, well-being, and light. It positions fashion as a balance between bold expression and quiet reassurance, creating fresh momentum for the season.
PARADOX unites four core trend narratives: AFFECTION, BREATHE, BEWITCHING, and HONOURATION. These themes were developed by leading trend forecasters from Tokyo, Paris, New York, and Milan. Visitors can explore the trends in detail at the Trend Forum in Hall 5.1 during Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition, from 11 to 13 March 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai.
Global Trend Forecasting Comes Together
Sachiko Inoue of Tokyo will bring the PARADOX concept to life at the Intertextile Directions Trend Forum. She collaborated with the Directions Trend Committee, including NellyRodi™ Agency (Paris), DONEGER | TOBE (New York), and Elementi Moda (Milan).
The Trend Forum will present more than 700 fabric and accessory samples. Buyers can use the Spring/Summer 2027 Trend Guide as a practical sourcing tool for colours, prints, patterns, and materials aligned with future demand.
Embracing Imperfection and Authentic Expression
The PARADOX narrative shifts fashion away from status-driven statements toward introspection and authenticity. Across all four themes, the focus remains on individuality, durability, and understated elegance. Simplicity, imperfection, and emotional connection shape the season’s creative direction.
AFFECTION: Comfort-Driven Citywear
AFFECTION redefines citywear as relaxed, wearable, and functional. Designs blend masculine and feminine elements while combining traditional craftsmanship with sporty influences. Hybrid garments offer comfort without sacrificing elegance.
The colour story centres on whites, off-whites, and soft greys, accented with greenery and dawn-inspired yellow. Fabrics include technical materials paired with fine wool, subtle stripes, and delicate checks, enhanced by poetic, everyday-inspired prints.
BREATHE: Nautical Ease with Urban Function
BREATHE merges nautical references with modern urban style. Stripes inspired by beach buoys and deckchairs introduce warmth and joy, while layered silhouettes adapt to changing weather conditions.
The palette features aqua tones and oxygenated blues. Fabrics prioritise soft-touch technical innovation, while patterns include burnout jacquards, satin finishes, wave-inspired dévoré denim, and fluid textures that convey relaxed elegance.
BEWITCHING: Sensuality Rooted in Craft
BEWITCHING celebrates feminine mystique through fluid silhouettes and artisanal expression. Inspired by nocturnal forests, rituals, and symbolism, the theme blends ancestral craftsmanship with contemporary sensuality.
Dark, atmospheric backgrounds contrast with vivid and unexpected colours. Fabrics include chiffons, organza, silks, washed tie-dye textures, striped monochromes, and glossy satins, creating a look that is both emotional and refined.
HONOURATION: Elevated Artisanal Heritage
HONOURATION highlights craftsmanship and cultural heritage from around the world. Modest, natural materials are transformed into refined, understated designs that value quality over display.
Warm neutrals inspired by raw and precious materials contrast with bold, highly pigmented hues. Fabrics and patterns feature innovative ikats, basket weaves, abstract geometrics, blurred stripes, and subtle neoclassical florals.

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition is co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, CCPIT Sub-Council of Textile Industry, and the China Textile Information Centre. The fair will run alongside Yarn Expo Spring, Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Spring Edition, CHIC, and PH Value.
