Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, emphasized India’s civilizational legacy as a key driver of national pride and economic growth at a seminar hosted by the Shaheed Nanak Singh Foundation in New Delhi. The event, themed “Honouring Those Who Honour India”, celebrated the legacy of Shaheed Nanak Singh, a martyr known for promoting Hindu-Muslim unity during the Partition of India.
Shri Puri lauded the sacrifices made by refugees and their contributions to India’s progress, stating that the nation has drawn strength from its cultural roots to power modern development. “We have reclaimed our civilizational values, and used them as a source of strength and economic resurgence,” he said.
Lord Rami Ranger, FRSA and member of the UK House of Lords, paid tribute to his father Shaheed Nanak Singh’s legacy, noting his commitment to unity during India’s most divisive era. He stressed that a united India is vital for preserving its rich civilization, which has endured despite centuries of challenges.
Vineet Nanda, General Secretary of the Shaheed Nanak Singh Foundation, highlighted the importance of acknowledging Indians who have upheld the country’s global image through sacrifice and integrity.
The event was attended by a host of dignitaries including Col. Kulwinder Singh (Shaheed Nanak Singh’s son), former Minority Commission Chairman Mr. Tarlochan Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha, and other senior bureaucrats and public figures, underscoring the deep reverence for Nanak Singh’s contribution to India’s socio-cultural fabric.
