Vanshika Parmar, the reigning Miss Earth India 2022 from Nadaun, Himachal Pradesh, has been selected as India’s representative at a prestigious event during the G20 2023 summit. The event, called the Ladakh International Fashion Runway, is organized in collaboration with the Indian armed forces and will take place in Ladakh on August 30th. Its purpose is to promote sustainable fashion, combat the climate crisis, and showcase the rich cultural heritage of India while celebrating local craftsmanship.
An exciting aspect of the Ladakh International Fashion Runway is that it will be held at an altitude of 19,022 feet on Umlinga, making it the highest elevation fashion ramp ever attempted. The organizers intend to set a Guinness World Record with this remarkable feat. Furthermore, the event will be documented and showcased at esteemed festivals like the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival, adding to its prominence.
The runway will showcase the presence of 26 beauty queens representing G20 nations and G20 guest nations who have previously adorned the platforms of Miss Universe, Miss Earth, and Miss World. In addition to the fashion showcase, there will be an informative session on sustainable fashion and biodegradable products, aiming to raise awareness and encourage the global fashion industry to adopt more environmentally friendly practices.
Vanshika Parmar expresses her enthusiasm about the event, stating that Ladakh was chosen as the location to draw international attention to the importance of conserving nature and preserving mountain glaciers. She also shares that the show’s objective includes promoting the use of Non-Violent Silk, an Indian-made fabric, in the global fashion industry.
Vanshika comes from a family with a strong military background. Her father, Group Captain Shusheel Kumar Parmar, serves in the Indian Air Force, while her grandfather is a retired army officer. As the reigning Miss Earth India, Vanshika aims to collaborate with the government to promote eco-tourism and become an ambassador for the Green Himachal movement in her beloved home state of Himachal Pradesh.
Her commitment to environmental causes extends beyond India’s borders. Not long ago, Vanshika received an invitation from Ghana’s tourism ministry to advocate for eco-tourism and environmentally conscious initiatives in Africa. Furthermore, during her participation in the Miss Earth 2022 pageant in the Philippines, she assumed the role of an ambassador in the fight against the climate crisis.
Inspired by the Green Himachal initiative and the forward-thinking approach of Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh, Vanshika is passionate about working with the government to foster sustainability and promote eco-tourism in her home state. As she continues her reign as Miss Earth India, Vanshika strives to be an ambassador for sustainability and environmental healing, contributing to the well-being of Mother Earth.
