India–Canada Hold 7th Ministerial Dialogue to Strengthen Trade and Investment
Renewed Efforts to Boost Bilateral Trade
India and Canada held the 7th Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) in New Delhi today. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Maninder Sidhu co-chaired the discussion. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral trade relations and setting a forward-looking cooperation agenda. It also aligned with the Joint Statement, “Renewing Momentum towards a Stronger Partnership” released on October 13, 2025.
Commitment to Economic Growth
Both Ministers reaffirmed the strong relationship between the two countries, rooted in democratic values and cultural diversity. They acknowledged the vital role of the Indian diaspora of 2.9 million people and more than 427,000 Indian students in Canada, who significantly contribute to economic and social development and strengthen bilateral ties.
Bilateral trade in goods and services reached USD 18.38 billion in 2023. The Ministers welcomed the rise in two-way investments and reiterated their commitment to building an open, transparent and predictable business environment that supports sustainable and inclusive growth.
