U.S. Laundry Machine Imports
In August 2023, overseas purchases of washing, bleaching or dyeing machines were finally on the rise to reach 297 units after two months of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when imports increased by 355% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 553 units in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, laundry machine imports soared to $2.5M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 with an increase of 206% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $3.8M. From December 2022 to August 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (162 units) and South Korea (96 units) were the main suppliers of laundry machine imports to the United States.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the biggest increases were in South Korea (with a CAGR of +1.4%).
In value terms, Spain ($876K) constituted the largest supplier of laundry machine to the United States, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($226K), with an 8.9% share of total imports.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from Spain totaled -5.8%.
Import Prices by Country
In August 2023, the laundry machine price stood at $8,491 per unit (CIF, US), jumping by 22% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 165% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $11,701 per unit in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($57,143 per unit), while the price for South Korea ($2,350 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
