News tidbits from the fashion and beauty industries: high-performance products are in the works, and there are plenty of funny memes.
Ackermann Haider has been active.
We’re appreciating all the recent surprising collaborations that have been revealed. The French-Colombian designer Haider Ackermann unveiled a joint collection with none other than Fila at the end of last week, following the lovely Dries Van Noten and Stussy revelation. The venue was unexpected as well, but it made sense because Manchester has a strong history of cool vibes, zeitgeist music (Oasis, Joy Division, Factory Records, etc.), and athletic fashion. Emma D’Arcy and Andrew Garfield attended the runway presentation, which took place in a location that has been both a nightclub and a train station. The collection on display was a novel take on sportswear. Op-art prints, scorching neons, fantastic windbreakers, swimsuits, and even goggles are available.
In other Haider Ackermann news, he will also be the following guest designer at Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture, following in the footsteps of Olivier Rousteing of Balmain, Chitose Abe of Sacai, and Glenn Martens of Y/Project.
It’s thrilling clothing from the quietly superb Ackermann, and Timothee Chalamet will undoubtedly wear it all.
Tom Ford disposed of his multibillion-dollar corporation.
In a deal worth US$2.8 billion, cosmetics giant Estée Lauder Companies purchased Tom Ford’s fashion label, becoming the sole owner of not only the Tom Ford business’s beauty division (which was already a part of ELC), but also the entire brand’s intellectual property. The designer will remain Tom Ford’s creative director through 2023, earning an estimated US$1.1 billion as a result of the transaction, according to Forbes.
Tom Ford stated in a statement, “I could not be happier with this acquisition as The Estée Lauder Companies is the appropriate home for the brand. They have been a remarkable partner since the day I founded the business, and I am overjoyed to see them take on the role of luxury guardians in this new era of the Tom Ford brand.
M.A.C. will release a complete skincare line in 2023.
The debut of a new “high performance” line into more than 1500 M.A.C stores worldwide, as well as online, in January 2023 is part of M.A.C’s drive into the skincare sector. A hybrid serum/moisturizer, or “serumiser,” a moisturising cream, a cleaning oil, and a brush for applying serum and moisturiser are the first products in the Hyper Real skincare line. According to Vogue Business, M.A.C hopes that over the next three years, 30% of its beauty customers will switch to the skincare line after the launch of Hyper Real. The brand has already dabbled in skincare with its Prep + Prime range, which includes a primer and setting spray. As always, we’ll keep you informed about the launch schedule for New Zealand.
Ticketmaster was breached by Taylor Swift
Because of the pre-sale demand (and bots), the ticketing giant’s US website was taken down, which sparked a flurry of complaints, the suspension of general sales, and a tonne of amusing memes.
Coach debuts e-commerce in New Zealand
Customers of the well-known US retailer can now make online purchases in New Zealand dollars. Coach has just introduced regional e-commerce to go along with its expanding brick and mortar retail presence on our soil. Price points for women’s, men’s, accessories, and clothing range from $150 (for a practical, traditional card case) to $4435 (for an artistic Coach x Mint + Serf trench coat). The campaign, which stars Jennifer Lopez, Zoey Deutch, and Chan-Young Yoon, is also timely for the brand’s eye-catching Christmas collection. It’s all very Americana, with plenty of varsity patterns and monograms. Nz.coach.com/stores
