Hermès, a paragon of luxury, has sculpted its legacy since 1837, when Thierry Hermès initiated a workshop crafting saddles and harnesses for the equestrian world. Charles-Émile Hermès and his son, Émile Hermès, strategically diversified the business, introducing luggage, handbags, and other leather goods. Émile secured exclusive rights to the zipper in 1922 and expanded into men’s ready-to-wear, jewellery, watches, and sandals between 1925 and 1928.

Robert Dumas, son-in-law of Émile, steered Hermès into the mid-20th century, creating the iconic silk scarf in 1937. Jean-Louis Dumas, another son-in-law, marked his era with the creation of the legendary Birkin bag in 1984, inspired by Jane Birkin.

The Kelly bag, originally designed by Robert Dumas, gained global prominence in 1956 when Grace Kelly adorned it, leading to its renaming in her honor. The Constance, introduced in 1959, stands out with its distinctive ‘H’ clasp.

Beyond bags, Hermès has left an indelible mark with accessories like the Clic Clac bracelet, designed with a signature double ‘H’ clasp, the chic Oran sandals by Pierre Hardy, launched in 1997, and the timeless Avalon throw blanket introduced in 1988.

In the realm of horology, Hermès unveiled the exquisite Cape Cod watch in 1991, inspired by the Chaîne d’Ancre bracelet design. The brand’s exclusivity in the watchmaking arena is highlighted by its collaboration with Apple on a special-edition Apple Watch in 2015.

Hermès remains an epitome of craftsmanship, innovation, and timeless elegance, intertwining tradition with contemporary allure. The saga of the Hermès family, carefully navigating through ever-evolving trends and demands, continues to resonate with connoisseurs of luxury worldwide.
