Over 100 women working at an apparel factory in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalle district became ill on Tuesday after inhaling a noxious gas whose source and cause were unknown. This was the second similar incident at Brandix India Apparel Company (BIAC) in Atchutapuram in less than two months, with the last one injuring about 300 women.

On Tuesday, about 4,000 women worked at BIAC. Those who were impacted reported nausea, headaches, coughing, and suffocation. Some of the ladies fainted and were initially treated inside the facility before being transported to neighbouring hospitals. Their health is said to be stable. The atmosphere was tense. Some of the 300 women who became unwell in the most recent episode, on June 3, were pregnant.
