Gartex Texprocess India Expands East, Kolkata to Host Textile Technology Platform in January 2027

The new Kolkata edition will connect Eastern India’s textile and garment manufacturing sector with machinery, technology, fabrics and allied solutions.

Gartex Texprocess India is expanding its presence to Eastern India with the launch of its Kolkata edition from 22–24 January 2027 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, Kolkata.

Organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd and MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, the new edition marks the next stage in the show’s growth. It will bring the established textile and garment manufacturing platform to a region known for its strong textile heritage and growing manufacturing potential.

Kolkata Brings Textile Heritage and Manufacturing Potential

West Bengal has a long-standing role in India’s textile industry. The state is known for its handloom traditions, jute sector, hosiery and garment manufacturing.

Its major weaving and craft clusters include Fulia, Santipur, Bishnupur and Murshidabad. These clusters continue to contribute to the region’s textile identity.

Kolkata and nearby districts are also recognised as the historic home of India’s hosiery industry. The sector has developed over more than a century.

In addition, the city is a major centre for ethnic wear, kidswear, zari and embroidery. The Hooghly belt remains an important hub for jute manufacturing. Today, the sector is expanding into products such as bags, home textiles, geotextiles and composites.

As garment manufacturing grows, demand for woven fabrics is also increasing. The state is encouraging investment in powerlooms and textile processing, including through initiatives such as the integrated textile park at Ashoknagar–Banipur.

At the same time, manufacturers across Eastern India are looking for advanced machinery and technology. Modernisation, capacity expansion and access to wider markets are also becoming key priorities.

Gartex Texprocess India Expands to Three Editions

Since its launch, Gartex Texprocess India has developed into a platform for India’s textile and garment manufacturing ecosystem. Its Delhi and Mumbai editions have brought together manufacturers, fabric suppliers, technology companies and buyers.

With Kolkata joining the calendar, the exhibition will now have three editions each year. This will extend its geographical reach across North, West and East India.

The Kolkata edition will focus on strengthening connections between Eastern India’s manufacturing community and technology and machinery providers from India and international markets.

For exhibitors, the new edition offers access to a market where many companies have had limited physical presence. Meanwhile, Eastern India-based manufacturers will have a regional platform to present their capabilities to a wider national audience.

Visitors will also benefit from easier access to machinery, technology, fabrics, trims and allied solutions.

Gateway to Eastern India and Neighbouring Markets

Kolkata’s location provides access to a wider economic region. This includes Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and the North-East.

The surrounding markets offer diverse textile opportunities. Bhagalpur is known for its silk sector, while Bihar is also seeing growth in garment manufacturing. Odisha is attracting new investments in apparel and technical textiles.

The North-East, meanwhile, has a strong handloom base and an established Muga and Eri silk economy.

Kolkata’s connectivity with neighbouring markets such as Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan also adds a cross-border dimension. This could create further interest in fabrics, trims, machinery and textile technology.

Industry Leaders Welcome the Expansion

Commenting on the expansion, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director and Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, said: “Over nearly a decade, Gartex Texprocess India has evolved alongside India’s textile and garment manufacturing industry, building strong industry engagement through our editions in Delhi and Mumbai. Our expansion to Kolkata is a natural next step in that journey. Eastern India combines a remarkable textile and handloom heritage with an increasingly ambitious manufacturing community that is looking towards technology, modernisation and new markets. We want Gartex Texprocess India to be part of that future growth, connecting the strengths of this region with technology providers, manufacturers and buyers from across India and international markets.”

Mr Gaurav Juneja, Director, MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, added: “Eastern India’s textile and garment industry presents significant opportunities, particularly as manufacturers look towards capacity expansion, modernisation and wider market access. Gartex Texprocess India in Kolkata will provide the industry with a platform where manufacturers and buyers can see, compare and source technologies and solutions in one place. For exhibitors, it opens access to a new and important market, while for visitors it brings a comprehensive textile technology platform closer to their doorstep. Kolkata is a market we have been evaluating closely, and we believe the time is right to be here.”

Machinery and Technology in Focus

The Kolkata edition is expected to bring together companies from across the textile and garment manufacturing value chain.

Key areas will include circular knitting, hosiery and knitwear machinery. The exhibition will also feature spinning, sewing, embroidery and garment-making technologies.

Digital textile printing, dyeing and finishing equipment will form another important segment. In addition, visitors can explore powerlooms, weaving, sizing and woven processing technologies.

Jute processing and technology for diversified jute products will also be featured. Fabrics, trims, accessories and other allied solutions will further strengthen the exhibition’s offering.

With traditional textile practices and modern manufacturing developing side by side, Kolkata presents an important opportunity for Gartex Texprocess India. The new edition aims to connect Eastern India’s textile heritage with the technologies and opportunities shaping the sector’s next phase of growth.
