A personalized replica of the viral white shirtdress worn by Anne Hathaway on the Rome red carpet will be available for pre-order starting on May 28, according to American retailer Gap.
Zac Posen, the creative director of Gap, created the unique dress, which the actress wore on May 20 at a Bulgari event in Italy. The brand’s signature white shirt is reimagined in this deconstructed dress, which draws influence from the classic Audrey Hepburn movie “Roman Holiday.”
“Designing this custom white shirt dress was an exciting opportunity to reimagine Gap’s classic white shirt,” Posen, who joined Gap as creative director in February, said in a statement. “By incorporating elements like the shirt’s collar and placket and adding feminine touches with darting at the waist, we created a modern look that pays homage to the elegance of Audrey Hepburn in “Roman Holiday.””
“It’s a link between classic style and modern fashion.”
In response to the dress’s widely shared social media reaction, Gap is launching a poplin white shirtdress that costs 158 US dollars and is made entirely of organic cotton.
Pre-orders go live on Gap.com on May 28 at noon ET / 9 am PT, with orders scheduled to ship in July. It will be marketed in US sizes 00 to 16 and will be available in “limited qualities,” according to Gap.
