Frasers Group, known for big retail ventures, has officially acquired Compton House, a significant retail spot on Liverpool’s Church Street, from M&S, the details of which remain undisclosed. The Grade II-listed five-storey Compton House became available after M&S moved to its new flagship location in the Liverpool One mall last August.
James France, Head of Acquisitions at Frasers Group, expressed the group’s commitment to physical retail and shared that the new Sports Direct store in Compton House will provide customers with a cutting-edge sports retail experience. The flagship store will cover 70,000 sq ft and showcase the world’s biggest sports brands. Additionally, Everlast Gyms plans to introduce a 23,000 sq ft hybrid gym within the space.
Jennina O’Neill, Chair of Liverpool BID’s Retail and Leisure Board, welcomed the news, stating that the addition of Sports Direct to Church Street will attract significant foot traffic and enhance the overall retail experience in the city center. She also expressed anticipation for the positive impact Frasers Group’s plans may have on the surrounding streets and Williamson Square, highlighting the potential for transformative development in the city center.
