Foot Locker Expands Presence in India Through Exclusive Partnerships with Metro Brands and Nykaa Fashion

The collaboration between Foot Locker, Metro Brands Limited (MBL), and Nykaa Fashion holds strategic significance in the rapidly evolving Indian market. The long-term licensing agreement positions MBL as the exclusive operator of Foot Locker stores in India, providing a gateway to showcase and sell authorized merchandise. Simultaneously, Nykaa Fashion will leverage its expertise as the exclusive e-commerce partner, managing Foot Locker’s digital presence and retailing Foot Locker-branded products on its established e-commerce platforms.

As the sneaker segment in India is anticipated to reach a substantial 66 million pairs by 2028, the partnership aims to capitalize on this burgeoning demand and the country’s flourishing fashion industry. Mary Dillon, President and CEO at Foot Locker, expressed excitement about the collaboration’s potential to elevate sneaker culture in India. The combined omni-channel strength of Metro Brands and Nykaa Fashion is seen as a unique advantage to cater to the diverse and rapidly growing Indian market.

Nissan Joseph, CEO of Metro Brands Limited, emphasized that beyond the commercial aspects, the partnership serves as a catalyst to enhance the overall retail experience. With Metro Brands celebrating the recent opening of its 800th store in India, the company’s diverse portfolio, featuring both Indian labels like Metro Shoes and Mochi and international favorites like Crocs and Fila, is set to play a pivotal role in meeting the dynamic needs of customers.

On the market front, Metro Brands saw a 2 percent increase in its shares, closing at Rs 1326, while Nykaa experienced a 1.6 percent rise, closing at Rs 172 earlier in the day. This positive market response underscores the confidence investors have in the potential success of this collaborative venture in the thriving Indian retail landscape.
