First textile exhibition by fashion designer Amesh Wijesekera.

Fashion designer Amesh Wijesekera used a range of textile art pieces to explore the idea of “Homecoming” at the Barefoot Art Gallery in Colombo, Sri Lanka. At the opening, thirty of Wijesekera’s original creations were on show.

The designer’s debut textile art presentation was well received at the Sri Lankan contemporary art gallery. The designer has previously participated in fashion weeks in Berlin and London, as per a Facebook announcement from Barefoot Art Gallery.

The Barefoot Gallery announced on its Facebook page, “This body of work serves as a renaissance of Amesh’s creative journey showcasing an amalgamation of knit experiments, textile printing, and dyeing methods.”Young and highly regarded fashion designer Ameesh explores the nuances of his artistic development and the endless possibilities of fabrics and print as a vehicle of expression in partnership with Barefoot Gallery.

With the use of vibrant colours and photos, Wijesekera’s textile creations tell the story of his reconnection to his past. Using dead stock cut-offs and trims, the designer underlined the importance of seeking sustainability while simultaneously expressing one’s creativity.
