In a heartfelt homage to Rudolf Nureyev, Kim Jones draws inspiration from the dancer’s life and wardrobe for the latest Dior menswear collection. The collection not only pays tribute to Nureyev but also honors Kim Jones’ uncle, Colin Jones, a former Royal Ballet dancer and talented photojournalist.

Capturing the essence of Nureyev’s aesthetic, the Dior collection features 60s London tailoring, iridescent raincoats paired with big shorts and deep gorge tops, and exquisite silk and fine wool suits with hidden buttons. Nureyev’s painter’s knotted cloth caps and matelassé silk dance slippers make a charming appearance throughout.

Jones concludes the show with a euphoric display of beautifully embroidered coats and tops, adorned with snow crystals. The collection showcases a crystal mesh tunic, an off-the-shoulder alligator blouson, a toile de jouy tank with matching backpack, and a glimmery anthracite crystal dressing gown.

Born on the Trans-Siberian railway, Nureyev faced challenges, including opposition from his Tatar father against his passion for dancing. Despite his hardships, Nureyev became a fashion icon, and Jones, in contrast to a previous homage by John Galliano, offers a gentler and opulent portrayal of the dancer.

Kim Jones dedicates the Dior Winter 2024-2025 men’s show to the memory of Colin and Michael, his late father, expressing gratitude for the inspiration received from his male relatives. The collection is a noble tribute to a remarkable dancer and a cherished family legacy.
