NEW YORK CONSCIENCE: Highlighting its long-standing partnership with the late Peter Lindbergh, Dior will present an exhibition of never-before-seen prints from a Times Square photo shoot with a roster of elite models and over 80 ensembles from its archives.

More than 100 photos shot between 1988 and 2018 will be on display at the Galerie Dior exhibition space at the French fashion house’s iconic store on Avenue Montaigne in Paris.

As per the brand, “this artistic journey offers a unique look at the expression of their architecture, essence, and allure, weaving a fascinating dialogue with the Dior silhouettes.”
The photographer, who passed away in 2019, is well-known for having worked with Marion Cotillard on a number of Lady Dior advertisements. One particularly striking picture features the French actress poised atop the Eiffel Tower. Additionally, Lindbergh directed a 2016 commercial for Charlize Theron’s J’adore Eau Lumière fragrance.
In October 2018, he gathered celebrities, including Alek Wek, Karen Elson, Saskia de Brauw, Carolyn Murphy, Amber Valletta, and Sasha Pivovarova, for his last project with Dior. The models posed for the vintage Dior designs against the busy backdrop of New York City, with the majority of the images shot in his distinctive grainy black-and-white.

The photographer stated at the time, “I wanted to transport 70 years of Dior creations to an unexpected place, even though haute couture is closely linked with an idea of perfection and the mastery of every detail.” The house’s founder, Christian Dior, described the “electric air” of the city on his first visit in 1947.
The pictures feature Wek interacting with the crowd of onlookers while wearing ensembles that range from a 1947 cream Bar jacket to a 1997 silver lace pyramid-collared jacket and silver lamé skirt by John Galliano. Gianfranco Ferré created an off-the-shoulder black gown in 1991, which Irina Shayk is wearing.

Additionally, Lindbergh took pictures of Dior looks for magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Vogue Paris, Vogue Italia, and U.S. Vogue. These looks included both haute couture and ready-to-wear pieces for both men and women.
