Siyaram’s has been at the forefront of launching successful brands, and now, they are poised to make waves in the denim industry once again with their latest offering, “The DEN-KNIT Collection.” This revolutionary fabric is poised to revolutionize the fashion landscape of the 21st century by seamlessly blending the look of woven denim with knitted structures. Its unique design, featuring inner loops that allow for 360-degree, 4-way stretch, sets it apart from traditional denim fabrics. The TVC Media Team recently had the opportunity to interview Mr. Anurag Poddar, President of Siyaram, during GARTEX 2024, shedding light on the groundbreaking innovation that is the DEN-KNIT Collection.

Can you provide an overview of your brand?

My name is Anurag Poddar, and I am excited to introduce our latest product line at Siyaram. We have recently launched a collection of 100% circular types of denim ranging from 180 GSM to 410 GSM. This highly versatile product caters to various fabric requirements across all categories, including kids’, ladies’, and men’s wear. Our product range includes t-shirts, shorts, trousers, jeggings, joggers, and jackets. Comfort and sustainability are at the core of our focus, as we aim to meet the evolving needs of our customers and pave the way for a brighter future in fashion.

What is the key factor to tap into the knit market?

Upon examining the denim market, we observed that the woven denim segment is highly competitive, whereas the knitted denim category is a niche market with untapped potential. This is why we found the knitted denim sector intriguing and promising. Not only is it a relatively new industry, but it is also showing signs of growth, making it a prime focus for expansion opportunities. By concentrating our efforts on this emerging market, we believe we can significantly increase its market share and capitalise on its future growth prospects.

How large is your market share within the domestic market?

In the current domestic market, the market size is relatively small, indicating a growing trend. With the increasing availability of products, the market is expected to expand further. As such, our market share remains minimal, likely to be less than 1% when compared to the overall denim market. This signifies that we operate in a niche market that holds immense growth potential. Our primary focus lies in strategizing on how to elevate this category.

How will the denim industry evolve in the coming years?

In recent years, the denim industry has encountered significant challenges, particularly in terms of oversupply. The focus has traditionally been on exports, but unfortunately, this sector has been stagnant or even declining. This trend has not only impacted the denim industry as a whole but also affected the market dynamics. However, there is optimism that the situation may improve by the end of the year, with hopes for a more positive outlook.

Can you provide insight into your aspirations for the denim industry?

Currently, as a relatively small player in the industry, our primary focus is on expanding the market for circular interred denim. We aim to enhance the accessibility of this category to cater to the increasing consumer demand for comfort. Over the past few years, there has been a noticeable growth in the knits category, reflecting customers’ emphasis on comfort. By concentrating our efforts on this specialised category, we believe we can contribute to its expansion in the foreseeable future.

Do you have any alternative recommendations for novice entrepreneurs? What are your thoughts on this? How would you describe the current state of the industry?

It’s an immensely captivating sector with a strong emphasis on design and styling. The industry demands dedication and keen attention to detail, especially regarding fabric expertise, yarn knowledge, and market trends. Those venturing into this field should prioritise design and styling, as they are crucial components. Overall, it is a highly creative and challenging industry, characterised by continuous innovation and exciting developments.
