De Beers Group Reports Progress on 2025 Sustainability Goals
De Beers Group advances its Building Forever framework with progress in livelihoods, nature conservation, climate action and diamond traceability.
De Beers Group has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting progress across its Building Forever sustainability framework, with key developments in economic livelihoods, biodiversity conservation, climate action and diamond provenance.
Key achievements during 2025 include a 14% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions since 2021, the management of 375,000 acres of land for conservation across Southern Africa, and the registration of more than five million rough diamonds on Tracr, its blockchain-backed traceability platform.
The Group also supported 2.6 offsite jobs for every onsite job created, trained an additional 500 women through its EntreprenHER programme and committed US$70 million to Botswana’s Diamonds for Development Fund to support long-term economic diversification.
Advancing Nature Conservation
De Beers Group continues to invest in biodiversity conservation and nature-positive initiatives across Southern Africa. Through its conservation properties, the Group manages 375,000 acres of land and aims to secure three times more land for nature than it impacts, while supporting partnerships to safeguard an additional 13 million acres by 2030.
A significant milestone was achieved through the Okavango Eternal partnership with National Geographic, which supported the designation of Angola’s first Ramsar Wetland. The initiative aims to help protect the source of 95% of the water flowing into the Okavango Delta.
In partnership with Debswana, De Beers also celebrated the birth of the 70th rhino calf on its nature reserves in Botswana since conservation efforts began in 2012. The Group additionally translocated 31 rhinos to support regional rewilding efforts.
Reducing Carbon Emissions
De Beers Group reduced its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 14% compared with 2021, progressing towards its science-based target of reducing its carbon footprint by one-third by 2030.
Its climate initiatives include supporting Envusa, which brings 520MW of solar and wind renewable energy capacity to Southern Africa. The Group is also advancing biofuel trials, tyre circularity initiatives with Anglo American and Sasol, and support for Kelp Blue, a Namibian startup cultivating giant kelp to help sequester carbon, restore ocean ecosystems and create local economic opportunities.
Future priorities include expanding renewable energy capacity, accelerating the electrification of mining equipment and working with suppliers to address Scope 3 emissions.
Supporting Livelihoods and Economic Diversification
De Beers Group continues to support employment, entrepreneurship and economic development in its diamond-producing partner countries. In 2025, the Group supported 2.6 offsite jobs for every onsite job created, working towards its ambition of supporting four offsite jobs for every onsite role by 2030.
The Stanford Seed programme, which provides leadership training, management coaching and networking opportunities to small and medium-sized enterprises, has supported 128 businesses since its launch.
Meanwhile, EntreprenHER, delivered in partnership with UN Women and government partners, trained an additional 500 women in 2025, bringing the total number of women trained since 2016 to more than 3,900.
The newly established Diamonds for Development Fund in Botswana is another key initiative. De Beers Group has committed an initial investment of BWP 1 billion, approximately US$70 million, to support the country’s emerging knowledge-based economy and accelerate long-term economic diversification.
Strengthening Diamond Provenance and Traceability
De Beers Group continued to strengthen responsible sourcing standards and diamond traceability throughout 2025. Its Best Practice Principles programme marked its 20th year, maintaining third-party-audited standards that cover approximately 250,000 people across more than 70 countries.
The Group also reported that all precious metal suppliers serving its De Beers London and Forevermark retail brands met its sourcing standards for gold, platinum and silver.
On traceability, Tracr surpassed five million individually registered rough diamonds. A new partnership with Sarine will integrate rough diamond source registration with advanced scanning data to help establish a cost-effective, end-to-end traceability solution.
Tracr also provided the traceability infrastructure for a De Beers London capsule collection featuring GemFair diamonds developed in 2025, demonstrating how artisanally mined diamonds can be sourced transparently for luxury retail.
Expanding the platform to additional production sources and midstream participants remains a key priority for strengthening provenance across the natural diamond value chain.
Leadership Perspectives
Al Cook, Chief Executive Officer of De Beers Group, said: “At De Beers, we believe natural diamonds can do more than sparkle. Through the natural diamond value chain, they can support jobs, skills development, nature conservation and climate action in diamond-producing countries. During 2025, De Beers Group sharpened its focus on a set of ambitious sustainability targets where the business can make the greatest difference, aligned with partner country priorities, global standards and UN Sustainable Development Goals. We are proud of the progress we are making to ensure every diamond we recover creates lasting impact for people, communities and the environment, but we also understand that this requires sharp focus, deliberate action and constant monitoring. As the pace of change around us increases, and as the risks and opportunities ahead of us become clearer, so must our commitment to progress grow.”
Sandrine Conseiller, CEO, De Beers Brands, added, “We’re pleased to share our 2025 sustainability achievements, demonstrating that our ambitions can lead to real, impactful change. Consumers increasingly expect the brands they choose to consider their wider impact, not as something exceptional, but as a matter of course. This report is about showing what De Beers’ sustainability commitments mean in practice, sharing openly the actions we are taking and the impact we are having, so customers can choose natural diamonds with confidence, knowing the value they create reaches far beyond the diamond itself.”
De Beers Group’s 2025 Sustainability Report outlines the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental stewardship, support local economies and improve transparency across the natural diamond industry.
