Crocs is launching an innovative program that empowers consumers to give their old Crocs shoes a new lease on life. Through this program, customers in select states will be able to bring their worn-out Crocs shoes to Crocs retail stores. Once collected, Crocs will leverage a combination of strategic partnerships and innovative approaches to ensure that each pair of old shoes embarks on a new journey.
For gently used Crocs shoes, a heartwarming path awaits. They will be donated to Soles4Souls, a well-respected international non-profit organization that specializes in distributing footwear to people in need. By doing so, these Crocs will continue to serve a valuable purpose and bring comfort to those less fortunate.
But what about those beloved pairs that have reached the point where they’re no longer wearable? Crocs has a plan for them as well. These well-loved shoes will be repurposed through upcycling initiatives and other sustainable methods, giving them an environmentally friendly afterlife.
The pilot program is set to kick off in Crocs retail stores located in ten states, including Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. At these locations, dedicated collection boxes will be available for Crocs enthusiasts to drop off their old shoes. To express gratitude to participants, a limited-edition ‘Crocs Saver’ Jibbitz charm will be gifted while supplies last.
Deanna Bratter, the Vice President and Global Head of Sustainability at Crocs, expressed the company’s excitement about this initiative, stating, “We’re excited to take this next step on our path toward innovating for a circular economy and a better future for footwear.”
The objective of this pilot program is to tackle the environmental and social challenges that the fashion industry faces in terms of product waste. By working collaboratively with its dedicated fanbase, Crocs aims to unlock new innovations and partnerships that can effectively reduce waste, provide a second life to its materials, prevent shoes from ending up in landfills, and contribute to helping people in need.
As Crocs continues on its journey toward sustainability and circularity, the takeback program is expected to expand, eventually encompassing all U.S. Crocs retail and online stores. This step aligns with Crocs’ broader ambition to build a more sustainable and responsible future for the footwear industry.
