Boosting Skill Development in the Garment Sector

The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) has pre-launched its Apparel Training Centre (ATC) at Magus Fashion City, Bhiwandi, in partnership with Magus Fashion City. The event drew over 50 garment manufacturers and industry representatives, marking a new milestone for skill growth in India’s apparel sector.

Preparing a Future-Ready Workforce

Naveen Sainani (Hon. General Secretary, CMAI) and Anand Golecha (Chairman, ATC Sub-Committee) are leading the initiative to create a skilled and industry-ready workforce. The centre will focus on enhancing productivity and improving manufacturing capabilities through specialized training. Furthermore, it will align its programs with current market needs to prepare participants for immediate employment opportunities.

CMAI’s Continued Efforts in Skill Development

Since 2008, CMAI has been active in apparel skill enhancement. It trained over 1,600 women sewing operators at Baramati Hi-Tech Textile Park, many of whom found jobs in local factories.

In addition, under the Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) – Component II of the Ministry of Textiles, CMAI was selected as an Implementing Agency. The goal was to train 35,000 individuals during the 12th Five-Year Plan. The association exceeded expectations by training 37,478 people, assessing 35,475, and placing 28,748 in garment factories across India.

From April 2017 to March 2018, CMAI continued its efforts by training 6,167 candidates, assessing 5,972, and placing 4,742 in jobs. Consequently, CMAI’s total achievement now stands at 43,645 trainees trained, 41,447 assessed, and 33,490 successfully employed. These results reflect its strong commitment to workforce empowerment.

Empowering Local Communities

Speaking at the pre-launch, Naveen Sainani stated,
“The CMAI Apparel Training Centre at Magus Fashion City, Bhiwandi, will serve as a hub for upskilling local garment workers, promoting productivity, and building a workforce ready for global standards.”

Moving forward, CMAI will collaborate with industry partners to operate the centre efficiently. This collaboration aims to support garment manufacturers, raise productivity, and enhance local employment. Therefore, this project represents another strong step toward a globally competitive Indian apparel industry.
