The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) has introduced the SU.RE website and the SU.RE Sustainable Supply Chain Directory—major initiatives to advance sustainability within India’s fashion industry. The platform connects over 600 verified vendors including fabric suppliers, recyclers, packaging experts, and certification bodies, making sustainable sourcing easier and more transparent for brands.
The SU.RE platform, short for Sustainable Resolution, offers resources, educational content, and case studies to foster collaboration and awareness across the apparel ecosystem. Its open-source Supply Chain Directory acts as a bridge between brands and sustainable suppliers across various categories like trims, packaging, and manufacturing.
Developed in partnership with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and the Global Alliance for Textile Sustainability (GATS), the platform encourages knowledge-sharing and innovation, addressing both environmental and ethical challenges in fashion. This move is timely, with India’s sustainable fashion market expected to grow from INR 2,700 Cr in FY24 to INR 25,000 Cr by FY30 at a CAGR of 45%.
Environmental impacts such as excessive water and energy usage from frequent laundering, along with the low reuse rate of textile waste, underline the urgent need for such initiatives. The Indian industry also faces ethical issues like inadequate labor laws and low transparency—areas SU.RE seeks to improve through responsible practices.
Backed by CMAI, Reliance Brands Limited, and the United Nations in India, SU.RE is India’s largest voluntary commitment to sustainable fashion. Since 2019, it has pushed for certified materials, traceable sourcing, consumer engagement, and a long-term goal of industry-wide sustainability by 2030.
The launch of the SU.RE website and supply chain directory at Bharat Tex 2025 marks a significant leap toward making Indian apparel globally competitive and environmentally responsible.
