Celine has announced Chinese actress Liu Shishi, known to international audiences as Cecilia Liu, as its newest global ambassador. The partnership marks a significant moment for both the actress and the French luxury house, solidifying Celine’s continued focus on the crucial Chinese market, where it currently operates 42 stores.
Liu expressed long-held admiration for the brand, citing its embodiment of Parisian sophistication and feminine ideals. Her appointment comes as Celine continues to expand its presence in China, including a recent renovation of its Hangzhou Mixc store.
Liu’s career trajectory is as impressive as her new role. A graduate of the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy, she transitioned into acting in 2005. Her career gained significant momentum with roles in historical and fantasy dramas, culminating in her breakout performance in “Scarlet Heart.” The series, a time-travelling romance set in the Qing Dynasty, became a phenomenon both domestically and internationally, earning Liu numerous accolades and sparking a real-life romance with co-star Nicky Wu.
Following “Scarlet Heart,” Liu continued her success with projects like the online sensation “Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky” and ventured into film with roles alongside action star Jet Li in “Badges of Fury.” More recently, she starred in “A Journey to Love” and the supernatural drama “Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Love in Pavilion.”
Known for her refined style, Liu has become a familiar presence at international fashion weeks, further establishing her influence in the fashion world. Her portfolio already includes ambassadorships with Tod’s, Qeelin, and Omega.
Liu joins a roster of prominent Celine global ambassadors, including South Korean stars Suzy Bae, V of BTS, Bogum Park, and Danielle of NewJeans. The brand has also appointed actress Teresa Li as a local ambassador, reinforcing its strategic approach to the Chinese market.
